ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications for Admission
All applicants are expected to meet the following requirements before being admitted to the entrance examination:
- BA in Philosophy / Religious Studies from an accredited institution, or
- BA (or equivalent) in other fields from an accredited institution.
- TOEFL score of at least 550 or equivalent as determined by the Graduate School of Philosophy and Religion.
- Three letters of recommendation from the applicant's former university professors or current supervisors/employers.

The English Entrance Examination may be exempted if applicant is satisfied with one of the following conditions:
- He/she is a native speaker of English, or
- He/she has got a Bachelor's degree or higher from English speaking countries (e.g. USA, UK, Canada, Australia, etc.), or
- He/she has a TOEFL score of at least 550 (within the last 2 years).

a) former instructors and/or b) current employers
- Satisfactory Assumption University entrance examination results

The summer course is optional.
Each course runs at least 15 weeks. It takes 3 hours per week.
Each semester starts in the first week of June and the first week of November of every year.

There are two plans of studies: Plan A and Plan B.
Students need to fulfill the following course requirements:

N.B. * (a) A student may be exempted from one or more determined courses with the approval of the Academic Committee.
(b) One who is required to take courses will not receive normal grades (just only Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory).
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
- All graduates must have GPA no less than 3.00.
- For the students of Plan A, their theses must be graded as passed or higher.
- For students of Plan B, they must pass the comprehensive examination, and their research papers must be graded as passed or higher.
Thesis (Plan A)
For the students of Plan A, their theses must be graded as passed or higher. Students can register to write their papers when they have finished all foundation courses, core courses, major required courses, and at least 6 credits of elective courses. Their GPA must not be less than 3.00.
- The Dean of the Graduate School of Philosophy and Religion will appoint at least one advisor with the approval of the advisee.
- The Dean will appoint at least 3 committee members including an advisor to consider, inquire and give advice to a student who presents his/her thesis proposal.
- The Dean will appoint at least 5 committee members including an advisor and an MUA representative when a student is ready for his/her oral defense.
- A thesis can be graded as follows:
E (Excellent), V (Very Good), G (Good), P (Passed), F (Failed)
Research Paper (Plan B)
For students of Plan B, they must pass the comprehensive examination, and their research papers must be graded as passed or higher.
Students can register to write their theses when they have finished all foundation courses, core courses, major required courses, and at least 18 credits of elective courses. Their GPA must not be less than 3.00.
- The Dean of the Graduate School of Philosophy and Religion will appoint at least one advisor as recommended by an advisee.
- The Dean will appoint at least 2 committee members including an advisor to consider, inquire and give advice to a student who presents his/her research paper proposal.
- The Dean will appoint at least 3 committee members including an advisor when a student is ready for his/her oral defense.
- A research paper can be graded as follows:
E (Excellent), V (Very Good), G (Good), P (Passed), F (Failed)
