ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications for Admission

The applicants are expected to meet the following requirements before being admitted for the entrance examination:

  • BA in Philosophy/ Religious Studies from an accredited institution, or
  • MA in Philosophy/ Religious Studies from an accredited institution, or
  • MA (or equivalent) in other fields from an accredited institution.
  • TOEFL score of minimum 550 or equivalent as determined by the Graduate School of Philosophy and Religion.
  • Three letters of recommendation from the applicant's former university professors or current supervisors /employers.

Entrance Examinations

  • English : 500 bht. (US$ 13)
    If an applicant satisfies one of the following conditions, he/she will be exempted from the English Entrance Examination:
    • S/he is a native speaker of English, or
    • S/he has got a Bachelor's degree or higher from English speaking countries (e.g. USA, UK, Canada, Australia, etc.), or
    • S/he has a TOEFL score of at least 550 (within 2 years).
  • Basic Course of Phil. & Rel. Studies : 500 bht. (US$ 13)
  • Interview Registration : 500 bht.(US$ 13)

Entrance Requirements

  • 2 copies of transcripts
  • 2 copies of residence registration document
  • 2 copies of I.D. card
  • 2 recommendations from your former teachers or current employers
  • 8 one-inch-size photographs
  • Satisfactory entrance exam results
  • Satisfactory interview results

The summer course is optional.
Each course needs at least 15 weeks. Each class takes 3 hours.
Each semester starts in the first week of June and the first week of November of every year.
PLAN OF STUDIES
There is only one plan for Ph.D. Studies. This plan emphasizes both coursework and a dissertation. Students following this plan can be divided into three groups:

  • Those who have a BA in Philosophy/ Religious Studies must write their dissertations with a minimum of 48 credits and do their coursework of at least 24 credits.
  • Those who have an MA (or equivalent) in other fields must write their dissertations with a minimum of 36 credits and do their coursework with a minimum of 12 credits, plus additional non-credit courses.
  • Those who have an MA in Philosophy/ Religious Studies must write their dissertations with a minimum of 36 credits and coursework with a minimum of 12 credits.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
To graduate from the Doctoral Program in Philosophy or Religious Studies, a student needs to complete the following requirements according to his/her status.

  • N.B. * (a) A student may be exempted from one or more required courses with the approval of the Academic Committee.
              (b) One who must take courses will receive S or U (pass/fail).
  • All graduates must have a GPA no less than 3.00.
  • Dissertations must be evaluated with a "passed" or higher.
